Dear Readers
Isn’t this sentence controversial? Does Brexit truly means Brexit? Simply put, yes! The citizens of the United Kingdom were democratically asked to vote yes or no to leave the European Union and they voted to leave the EU. Simple, right? Wrong because it has been evidenced that the British were lied to and manipulated to exit the EU. In an European mind like mine, I was a little bit confused when David Cameroun went ahead with this referendum when he worked so hard to negotiate a so-called » better » deal for the UK to protect its sovereignty and its interests. If you ask me, the man was mad and should be held accountable for the state of the country now but people have forgotten about him and are blaming Theresa May and are demanding her resignation whereas she didn’t even want to exit the EU on the first place…. very strange! After all the lies and manipulation exposed and with all the hardship to come, the UK should leave the European union by May despite the fact British politicians fought so hard to join in the 1970’s. A bit of history lesson for those of you who don’t know, the French namely our then French president Charles De Gaulle vetoed twice the British membership, maybe he knew back then what would happen now ;)!
I must admit I admire the British for sticking to their guns and wanting to leave the EU at all cost. Costly, it will definitely be but fortunately, it is going to be ok over time because that’s just how life goes and that’s how we, humans, the top of the animal chain, managed to survive over and over again.
There are some many expressions that come to mind to illustrate the referendum… Divide and conquer, David versus Goliath, shooting ourselves on the foot and the list goes on. That referendum and the current state of the world shows how much education is important in all areas of life, how it is fundamental and key to the survival of our societies. How else would we have survived if we didn’t transmit the knowledge from generation to generation? Why do totalitarian regimes and more subtly democratic ones too do everything in their power to control the information and decide what should or shouldn’t be taught at school? Because that’s the best and most efficient weapon to keep control. The Brexit referendum was a classic example of how a misinformed population was manipulated to vote for something that was deemed to be detrimental for them. The TV show, « The Uncivil War » demonstrated beautifully how a small fraction of people who had nothing to lose because they were well aware that they wouldn’t be held accountable to deliver the Brexit deal. This is why they aggressively campaigned the “leave” campaign using highly immoral tactics in order to win votes. It was painful to watch that show and it was far more hurtful to see history unveiling in front of my eyes powerless and helpless.
However, I did my best to educate people around me my ex in-laws and my ex partners’s friends by calling out the lies of all the made up statistics such as the 35 million pounds a week that will be saved for the National Health Service, the invasion of the EU citizens coming and taking British jobs.
Let’s pause one moment on those 2 statements. Nigel Farage ( the former leader of the United Kingdom Independent Party and the most vocal Leave campaigner) posed in front of poster showing Asian looking men claiming that leaving the EU will take back control. Allow me to remind people whether we like it or not, the EU citizens are mainly white so this picture is ridiculous and a diffamation about EU demographics!

Not only is this absurd but it is above all untrue to claim that EU citizens are a burden to the British economy, it is the complete opposite and all the statistics prove it. Statistics aside, from my own experience, all the EU citizens I know including myself ( Spanish, Italians, Romanians, French, Polish, Danish, Norwegians, Finnish, Dutch etc) have jobs and are therefore contributing to the British economy. Stating the EU citizens are putting pressure on an already fragile NHS is beyond ludicrous as a former NHS employee, I know and I saw it with my own eyes, this is totally unfounded. The people I saw at Epsom and St Helier NHS trust Accident and Emergency and at my own GP surgery in Sutton were 95% British. What it is true, it is that the NHS heavily relies on the EU citizens to work in areas they struggle to recruit for (doctors, surgeons, nurses etc), maybe the debate should have been on better ways to solve that dependance and solve the NHS deficit crisis rather than blaming everything on immigration.
Oops, what did I just write? Yes, instead of blaming everything on immigration, politicians should rather focus and work on finding appropriate and long term solutions to efficiently run this beautiful country. What am I? Crazy? That would be too sensible and risky and would force politicians to change. How many times did politicians blame immigrants to win elections? The answer is all the time because it is a winning recipe that works infallibly. Remember the 2008 recession, who was blamed for that? The banks? Nope, the immigrants as none of the banks were held responsible for a crisis caused by their greed and the British government/taxpayers wrote a big fat check to rescue them!
How on earth did we end up on the brick of collapsing? Yep, you got it, the immigrants! The vote was so shamefully focused on the immigrants coming over to take British jobs under Bruxelles careful watch! For someone like me who has a fairly good knowledge about how the EU works for having studied the EU institutions for 6 months at university, having taking part into an Erasmus programme ( exchange of EU students) and having written and developed an Erasmus programme plus project, I can say safely say the British public was lied to because Bruxelles has very little power over Immigration policy outside of its EU member states, there you have it! The migrant crisis and chaos is caused by the fact the 28 member states cannot agree on common immigration policy so when the British were told that their Members of Parliament are powerless, it is horse shit! Each country is free to make their own policies outside of the areas, treaties ratified by all EU members such as agriculture or fishing. If everything was decided at the EU level, Britain would have been part of the Euro zone for instance!
Admittedly, I am French, European and am pro EU BUT I recognise the failings of the European Union and the fact that it needs to be reformed to avoid « Frexit » for example considering the current revolutionary climate in France. The French don’t realise how lucky they are to educate their citizens on the EU institutions and programmes. I guess France has its own interests to protect them as one of the founders of this institution and is rightly so very protective of it. It is understood in France, the human rights country, that education is essence to the survival of a nation hence why education is a a right and is widely free. French people are historically very revolutionary and arrogant because of that education and regardless of what will happen in the next few weeks or months, deal or no deal, let’s not take what is said on the traditional and social media for granted and for the absolute truth, let’s do our own research in order to make a decision that is right for us, not for the power hungry politicians.
I know how blessed and privileged I am to be a French citizen living in the UK and Brexit will have very little impact on my life because I am lucky to have a job allowing me to work and leave anywhere I want so I wish all the best of luck to my UK friends to get through Brexit as graciously and humbly as they can.
